Magellan Development Forms Strategic Alliance

Magellan Project Services, an affiliate of Magellan Development Group, a leading Chicago-based high-rise residential developer, has formed a strategic alliance with an internationally active general contractor and architectural firm to propel the firm into global competition.

Magellan Project Services President Brian Gordon announced the agreement with Korean general contractor Hanwha Engineering & Construction and the recently formed architectural firm Brininstool, Kerwin and Lynch (BKL). The agreement was signed in early March at the headquarters of Hanwha, a Republic of Korea-based company. Co-signers were Hyun Chung Kim, president and CEO of Hanwha, and Thomas Kerwin, managing principal of BKL.

“This alliance was created to provide clients with the option to engage a fully integrated team that is capable of delivering all major aspects of project from design and development to construction, depending on the client’s needs,” said Gordon.” In addition to working with our extensive in-house resources, Magellan Project Services is also prepared to integrate with our alliance partners to serve clients domestically and abroad.”

“Magellan’s experience as a high-rise residential developer for the past 14 years embraces planning and developing luxury residential for-sale as well as rental high-rises, retail and commercial and mixed-use projects,” said Gordon.

“In addition to creating and managing all phases of our own extensive real estate portfolio, from design and construction supervision to sales and management, we also have served outside parties as consultants in these areas. By teaming up with the highly-qualified principals of Hanwha and BKL we are positioning ourselves to be highly competitive in an international marketplace.”

Headquartered in Seoul, Korea, Hanwha Corporation has been active on an international scale since 1952. It has a global network of 56 overseas subsidiaries and branches, including six in the United States, has nearly 26,000 employees, assets of $57.9 billion and annual sales exceeding $25 billion.

Hanwha ENC’s range of business activities includes infrastructure and environmental work, township development and building and refinery, chemical/petrochemical, industrial and power plants. Hanwha and Magellan Development Group have previously collaborated on several successful developments Hanwha and Magellan have determined to continue to expand their relationship.

BKL is a newly-formed architectural design firm whose principals have extensive experience in architectural design services also eager to expand its services to other parts of the world.

BKL Managing Principal Tom Kerwin was previously a managing partner of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, one of the largest and most respected architectural practices in the world. Kerwin was associated with the internationally-renowned SOM for 23 years, specializing in the management of highly complex large-scale urban projects as well as participating in the design and construction of commercial and civic buildings on an international scale.

Brininstool + Lynch is best known for its work in housing, cultural institutions and corporate interiors. The firm’s projects include the Racine Art Museum, United Airlines Red Carpet Clubs, private homes and high-rise developments for such major developers as CMK, Mesirow Financial and Related Midwest.

Explained Gordon: “Our experienced in-house and affiliate resources execute core services including development, architectural, construction, master-planning, acquisition, re-zoning, financial structuring, property management, project marketing and related professional services.
